Cheap, and getting cheaper, HDI diesels, well-equipped.
Slightly unrefined chassis, getting dated now, C4 Picasso's not that much dearer.
It's comfortable, it's spacious, it's practical and it's cheap.

The Xsara Picasso has long been a best-seller amongst compact MPVs - not least down to Citroen's aggressive price-cutting and cashback deals. It's deserved its popularity, though, with its roomy five-seater cabin, affordable running costs and general practicality. Thing is, there are now many more modern, stylish alternatives to choose from - including Citroen's own new C4 Picasso, which makes this Xsara-based model, launched back in 2000, look rather dated.
The Xsara Picasso comes in five-seater format only (the C4 Picasso has an optional seven-seat layout) and the continuing range comprises 1.6 HDI (110bhp) and 2.0 HDI (90bhp) diesels, or 1.6i, 1.8i and 2.0i petrol units, the latter with an auto gearbox. The 1.6 HDI 110 is far and away the pick of the bunch.
