Category: Superminis
Price Range: £10,440 to £14,045
Characterful design, versatile boot with Moduboard, roomy, easy and fun to drive, child-friendly features.
Plasticky, cheaply-textured cabin fittings, obstructive screen pillars, some reliability glitches.
A distinctive, well-designed but cheaply finished supermini.

Citroen tends to be open about discounts and cashback deals, so in practice the buying price is competitive. Watch out for special edition models, cashback deals, free insurance and low-rate finance. Ongoing costs should be low, especially for the HDi, which is one of the most economical cars you can buy - 64.2mpg. The 1.4i Stop-Start, which unfortunately comes only with the SensoDrive gearbox, returns 49.6mpg.
The C3 is designed to be cheap to repair after an accident, which keeps insurance costs down, and 'remote maintenance' - by which a dealer can reprogramme or reconfigure electronics by downloading data directly from Citroen - should make repairs cheaper and more convenient.
