Easy to drive, easy to own, good fuel consumption.
Price, hard ride, limited load-space, C2 now feels dated.
Sporty looks and excellent fuel economy are strong points, but it's not the best-value C2 in the range.

The HDi VTS is better-trimmed inside than entry-level C2 models (as you'd hope). The plastics are pleasant enough, but the seat fabrics are rather cheap-feeling and it doesn't have the air of a £16,500 car.
The C2 does seem more solidly screwed-together than the flimsy old Saxo, and the engines are now well tried and tested, but Citroen does not enjoy a good reputation for reliability and quality. This is backed up by reports from 4Car readers: 'It's been a terrible car to own,' says one of his C2 1.4 HDi. 'Serious fuel injector problems, sticking brakes, multiple air conditioning failures - it averages 2k miles between dealer visits.' 'Build quality is well below par,' reports another C2 owner. 'It rattles and creaks like a car 10 years old, something the dealer can't solve.'
