Huge load space, more comfortable than you'd think, all-round practicality, quirkiness.
Looks like a van, unnecessary roof height, no auto models, not as much safety kit as more car-like MPVs.
An excellent practical purchase if you can live with the looks.

The Berlingo rides a lot better than you'd expect, and noise levels are low for a van-derived design. Citroen has also improved the seats, which are now much better-bolstered and more supportive. It's well worth spending an extra £600 on air conditioning and £450 on the full-length electric sunroof to give that modern-2CV feel. A Comfort Pack (front armrests, fold-down tables and Modubox removable basket) is £60, but standard kit does now include electric front windows, remote central locking and niceties such as guide-me-home headlamps, automatic rear wipers, speed-sensitive wipers, front and rear reading lights and a 12-volt power socket, all made possible by the fitment of multiplex wiring. Lots of Berlingo owners are dog lovers, and a Berlingo with a boot-full of wagging tails is a common sight. That's because there's a huge, flat, easy-clean load area, even with the rear seats in place. With the (split) rear seats folded down, there's nearly all the load capacity of the van version; Citroen also claims that you can carry two full-sized mountain bikes, upright. For human passengers, the high roof and the optional full-length sunroof are a bonus, though the optional Modutop roof stowage area does make it feel a little more claustrophobic. There are loads of boxes, cubbys and consoles for putting things in. Just the radio/cassette still as standard, and a fairly basic one at that. Mind you, it does have steering wheel-mounted controls and speed-sensitive volume.
