Chrysler Viper (1994-2001) Review

Category: Exotic Sports 2 out of 5

Summary of the Chrysler Viper (1994-2001)

Price Range: No data available

Assets

Le Mans racing credentials, great sounds, over-the-top macho image.

Drawbacks

Unrefined handling, lack of equipment on the roadster, flakey construction quality, over-the-top macho image.

Verdict

The Viper is a bit of an animal, and will appeal to men who feel the need to prove their masculinity. Viagra on four wheels.

Chrysler Viper Review

Overview2 out of 5

The big, brutal Viper does 160mph and 0-60 in less than 5 seconds; it should be more reliable than a TVR but it lacks the street cred or handling finesse of Blackpool's finest. The monstrous V10, 415bhp engine fires out plenty of torque - and that combined with the testosterone-fuelled body styling means plenty of attention. Shrinking violets (and those of delicate sensibilities) need not apply.

The Viper was officially imported to the UK 1994-2001 and sold through Chrysler dealerships, though there are plenty of privately-imported models around with the (original) Dodge badge. Either way, don't even think of buying a Viper without service history or the correct paperwork. Official imports resumed again in 2004, but with the Viper renamed (for various complex legal reasons) the Dodge SRT-10.
