Category: Affordable Sports 4 out of 5

Summary of the Caterham Superlight R300 (2009-)

Price Range: No data available

Assets

Supercar-slaying performance, beautifully balanced handling, great six-speed 'box, racecar-with-numberplates looks.

Drawbacks

Unforgiving ride, no ABS, excessive care is needed in standing water.

Verdict

Hardcore R300 is at home on the road and is our pick of the Caterham range.

Caterham Superlight R300 Review

Running Costs5 out of 5

Even with its barn-door aerodynamics, the R300 has some of the lowest running costs of any sportscar.

Officially, the 175bhp 2.0-litre averages around 37mpg - an optimistic figure that would see you squeeze 300 miles out of the tiny 36-litre fuel tank. We expect most owners would be happy to get 200 miles out of it.

Insurance is pricey, with the R300 falling into the most expensive group 20 insurance group.
