Caterham Superlight R300 (2009-) Review

Category: Affordable Sports 4 out of 5

Summary of the Caterham Superlight R300 (2009-)

Price Range: No data available

Assets

Supercar-slaying performance, beautifully balanced handling, great six-speed 'box, racecar-with-numberplates looks.

Drawbacks

Unforgiving ride, no ABS, excessive care is needed in standing water.

Verdict

Hardcore R300 is at home on the road and is our pick of the Caterham range.

Caterham Superlight R300 Review

Safety and Security1 out of 5

The 7 lacks the usual safety equipment offered by the cheapest supermini. There's no airbags, ESP and even anti-lock brakes, but 50 years at the frontline of motorsport means what they lack in pre-tensioners they make up for in strength.

The 7 has passed all EU-required impact tests to enable Caterhams to be sold in France, Germany and Italy. That said we wouldn't fancy our chances when meeting a three-tonne Range Rover in an M25 pile-up.
