Caterham 7 (1973-) Review

Category: Roadsters 4 out of 5

Summary of the Caterham 7 (1973-)

Price Range: £15,995 to £42,595

Assets

Breathtaking driving experience, one of few cars that's good on both road and race-track, quality, history, design, lightness, performance

Drawbacks

The ride's a bit shabby, comfort is poor, cramped cabin

Verdict

If you're tempted by the pros, the cons won't matter; if you're put off by the cons, the pros won't - we're in the first of those camps

Caterham 7 Review

Safety and Security2 out of 5

Active safety is actually quite reasonable - Sevens are so agile, accelerative and decelerative that you're well placed to avoid an accident in the first place. And if you crash on your own, Sevens aren't bad either. They don't weigh much and the chassis is fairly strong. It's best not to ask about being hit by a larger vehicle though, really. What's known as compatibility in the industry dictates that, God forbid, if a two-tonne SUV and a 550kg Seven come together, it's the Seven that will come off worse. No airbags either.
