The 7 lacks the usual safety equipment offered by the cheapest supermini. The Caterham lacks airbags, ESP and even anti-lock brakes, but fifty years at the front line of motorsport means what they lack in pre-tensioners they make up for in strength.
The 7 has passed all EU-required impact tests to enable Caterhams to be sold in France, Germany and Italy. That said, we wouldn't fancy our chances when meeting a three tonne Range Rover in an M25 pileup.
