Caterham 7 Review

Reliability and Quality2 out of 5

Think of the Caterham as a carpeted racecar where the money has been spent where it counts: on the bits that make it such a fantastic drive. If you don't buy into this philosophy, the Caterham can be difficult to justify - even at well under half the price of the Porsche 911.

Especially when the roof leaks and feels more like a cheap tent than a decent barrier to the elements. The switchgear too feels ancient and past its best, but at least there's little to go wrong.

Tough mechanicals from Ford should mean the tuned engine should stand up well against abuse. Unfortunately our car had a very noisy diff that was about to be replaced under warranty.

Some cars are also known to suffer from the odd electrical gremlin.
