Admirable road-holding abilities, high-driving position, sporty styling.
Poor rearward visibility, cramped in the back, expensive to run, only four seats.
The X6 looks like a compromise - and it is. Despite delivering in terms of driveability and desirability, it's not a hugely practical car.

The X6 hasn't been tested by Euro NCAP, but it should be similar to the X5 because it shares the same platform.
The X5 is something of a game of two halves in this respect: it scored an impressive five stars for adult occupant protection, performing well in front and side impact tests. Its child restraints worked reasonably, according to Euro NCAP, but it was no saint when tested for pedestrian safety and scored a measly one star.
There are six airbags on the X6, as well as seatbelt force limiters and a belt tensioner function on the front seats. You get crash-activated headrests to reduce whiplash and Isofix child seat fastenings as standard. Rollover sensors that fire up the curtain bags if it thinks a roll is imminent are also fitted as standard.
