BMW 7 Series (1994-2002) Review

Category: Large Executive 3 out of 5

Summary of the BMW 7 Series (1994-2002)

Price Range: £53,695 to £68,800

Assets

Not expensive by class standards, well made, wide range, a good drive.

Drawbacks

Big-engined versions are still depreciating fast. Apart from rear room, offers little over the smaller BMW 5-Series.

Verdict

Competent but somewhat undistinguished.

Giving options

BMW's biggest had an impressive array of high-tech driver aids, safety equipment and sheer luxury, by the standards of its time. A wide variety of engines run through smooth automatic transmissions to drive the rear wheels. By the end of the 1990s, it did begin to feel a bit dated in comparison to newer, higher-tech yet rivals from other manufacturers, but many people actually prefer this old-school saloon to the controversially-styled model which followed it. But unless you really do need the extra space, BMW's own 5-Series does the job just as well, while being more fun to drive.
