BMW M3 (2001-2006) Review

Category: Affordable Sports 4 out of 5

Summary of the BMW M3 (2001-2006)

Price Range: £50,725 to £50,725

Assets

Performance, handling, quality, styling, practicality, value retention

Drawbacks

Pricey, not quite as much fun as the original 1986 M3, slightly too vulgar for some. CSL very expensive; SMG transmission flawed; Convertible has less rear room and smaller boot

Verdict

One of the great performance cars, and so easy to live with

BMW 3-Series Coupe Review

Fuel consumption is on the heavy side, sinking to 20mpg or worse if you fail to resist the allure of its performance. A big fuel tank means that you'll be reminded of this less often, at least. Insurance costs are high - around 25% more than for the next most powerful 3-Series Coupe - but servicing costs are only mildly more expensive. Tyres will not be cheap to replace, however.
