Bentley Arnage (1998-) Review

Category: Large Executive 3.5 out of 5

Summary of the Bentley Arnage (1998-)

Price Range: £200,400 to £200,400

Assets

Wonderful cabin ambience, comfort, heady turn of speed, exclusivity and hand-crafted appeal.

Drawbacks

Price, obviously, and the fact that mass-made cars are better made.

Verdict

Hugely soulful, though hardly rational.

Bentley Motors Arnage Review

Overview3.5 out of 5

This class of car is all about roominess, luxury - and, most important of all, prestige. The Arnage's ornate styling and very traditional interior design, as well as its sheer bulk and weight, might make you expect something old-fashioned. But it harnesses a fair bit of technology, too, and has little materially in common with older Bentleys. Powered by a turbocharged BMW engine, it accelerates with huge force, and can be hustled through corners with surprising ease. Refinement and quality are naturally very good, but not quite up with the BMWs and Mercedes saloons that cost thousands less. You're buying an experience, something that almost defines 'feelgood factor'.

Since launch in 1998, Bentley (now part of the Volkswagen Group, but maintaining its production facility in Crewe) has updated the Arnage range with the addition of models including the Black Label Arnage T and Arnage T (see separate stories).
