Great wind-in-your-hair thrills, fantastic S-tronic gearbox; positive handling and look-at-me style.
There are still more affordable TT Convertible variants that do the job just as well.
A very fine sporting roadster, but not quite as special-feeling as a Porsche Boxster.
This is as comfy as it gets with a sporting rag-top: the hood fits snugly, sound-proofing is excellent, and there's not a trace of scuttle shake, a rattle or unwanted vibration. The hood stows away neatly into the boot without cutting into the load-space (a useful 250 litres) and a wind deflector is offered as standard. The ride is firm but not over-hard, even in Sport mode, and the suspension does a good job over rough, uneven surfaces.
Standard TTS spec includes alcantara/leather seats (all-black, or black/silver) and the S-specific trim; full nappa leather upholstery is optional in four colour-ways, though the black/red and black/orange are rather tarty. There's a 14-watt sound system with single CD player and MP3 compatibility, electronic climate control and electric front windows, with sat nav optional.
The power steering has been modified, the brakes uprated, and the two-mode magnetic-ride adaptive suspension system optional in other TTs is standard-fit, as is Audi's Quattro four-wheel-drive.
To finish off the package, the TTS is kitted out with 18" aluminium wheels, bi-xenon headlights with LED daytime running lamps, a different front apron with larger air intakes, deeper side skirts, a fat rear bumper with four exhaust tailpipes, leather/alcantara sports seats, white-needled instruments, metal pedals and extra aluminium trim. Options include the S-tronic dual-clutch automatic gearbox and 19" wheels.
