Stylish looks, brilliant interior, Audi solidity and sky-high image
Not as engaging as a Porsche Boxster or newer rivals
Fabulously distinctive, the TT is one of the most desirable cars of the last decade

Audi has established an enviable reputation for reliability and build quality, the TT being no different from the rest of the German company's model line-up. Built on proven mechanicals, the TT feels as solid as the best of the competition inside and out. Audis age well, and the TT should be no different. The quality of the interior materials is excellent, and the 12-year body warranty is particularly reassuring. Owners reported a few minor quality defects early on, with the odd rattle and shake, but these seem to have been sorted by now; some owners with the optional 18-inch alloy wheels reported alarmingly short tyre life, and there was some early rear suspension trouble, fixed under recall. The 1.8T engine has been problematic in a few cases, however, with some reports of snapped timing belts (and replacement engines), plus ignition coil and air mass sensor failure; these issues have now been sorted and newer TTs are said to be unproblematic.
