Audi R8 Review

Reliability and Quality4 out of 5

There's no doubting that the part hand-built R8 is a solidly-constructed, quality item, but for a price that would top £100,000 were it not for Chancellor Darling's VAT cut, so it should be. We don't doubt either that the engine will prove strong and reliable, despite its ambitious state of tune. Audi, being a VW-owned company, will be required to ensure that all its engines can pass the same durability tests as the lowliest Polo.

If we have a gripe, it is with the interior where too much switchgear is common to other, cheaper Audis. The overall design and ambience, while clean and functional, lacks the sense of occasion you'd hope for, and even expect, of a car of this cost. Look inside any Aston Martin and you'll see what we mean. Then again, and unlike Astons, the R8's instruments and switchgear are models of clarity and are easy to use.
