Residual (resale) values of large SUVs are plummeting, but the story's not quite so grim with these more compact models. The freefall in 4x4 values may also slow now that London mayor Boris Johnson has cancelled the upcoming £25-a-day congestion charge for cars in tax band G, although ever-rising fuel prices will continue to deter used buyers.
So, all the more reason to go for the economical 2.0 TDI: it'll hold its value the best, and as it's a much better drive than a diesel Land Rover Freelander, it may well prove to be particularly sought after.
