Subtle style, excellent build quality, good diesel range, large choice of engines/transmissions.
Still not an involving drive for the sporty-minded, some find the styling plain.
An excellent all-rounder for those that want to relax on the road.

Audi has improved both the ride comfort and noise levels considerably thanks to revised suspension, thicker windows and a 40% increase in sound insulation - though the hard Sport suspension and larger standard alloy wheels do counterbalance the claimed 2 decibel decrease in intrusive noises. Even so, the A6 is still an excellent high-speed motorway cruiser, with all necessary creature comforts, gadgets and equipment. The A6 still has one of the biggest boots in its class in saloon form, and whilst the Avant doesn't seem quite as spacious as the cavernous Mercedes E-Class estate, it's certainly not cramped in there. Front and rear legroom, headroom and shoulderroom are all generous, and there are also plenty of storage/stowage features inside including neat fold-out door bins and cupholders front and rear. The audio equipment has been uprated over the outgoing range, and there are three levels of stereo. Entry-level models have Chorus, with cassette player, Concert adds a CD player, and top-of-the range is Symphony, with a six-disc multichanger and a radio hooked up to traffic information channels and the sat nav. Radio reception has been improved, there are more preset radio stations and the controls are easier to use. The satellite navigation is effective, and the top-spec A6s even have mini TV sets.
