Category: Executive 4 out of 5

Summary of the Audi A6 (2001-2004)

Price Range: £25,390 to £47,625

Assets

Subtle style, excellent build quality, good diesel range, large choice of engines/transmissions.

Drawbacks

Still not an involving drive for the sporty-minded, some find the styling plain.

Verdict

An excellent all-rounder for those that want to relax on the road.

Audi A6 Review

Reliability and Quality3 out of 5

Very well-built, but the 1.8-litre, 20v engine (2001-2002) has been particularly problematic; it's prone to snapping timing belts, ignition coil failure, air mass sensor and water pump failures, though most should have been sorted out (or replaced) by now. Other problems are emerging as these cars get older, including glitches with the Multitronic gearbox, front suspension, electric windows and other electrical functions.
