Distinctive, ultra-modern styling, build quality and refinement. Diesel TDi extremely thrifty, 2.5 TDi sportily brisk. One of the best interiors you'll find anywhere.
Not the most satisfying car in its class to drive.
A good all-rounder - for temperate drivers.

All A6's make superb high-geared motorway wafters and look after you with traction control and climate control even on the cheapest versions. What a shame the ride is a shade sub-standard - and although the A6 is generally quiet, it suffers more wind noise than you'd expect, even at 70 mph. The Audi has one of the most commodious boots in its class and does well for passenger head, leg and shoulder room too. There are also plenty of dumping grounds inside, including neat fold-out door bins, and cupholders front and rear. The estate (Avant) has a well-shaped loadspace - though Volvo's V70 is roomier - and it's seats are easy to fold, but they don't form a protective bulkhead behind the front chairs, and the parcel shelf crossbar is a fiddle to remove. The A6 has a unique-fit RDS equipped stereo radio with a concealing pull-down flap. A CD player is optional; sound quality is good.
