If you want more power, the cost-conscious advice is go diesel. Even the most muscular 237bhp 3.0 TDI returns a fine 40.9mpg, while the 2.7 TDI with the Multitronic auto beats it at the pumps with a combined 42.8mpg average. Least frugal is the 3.2 FSI petrol that averages 30.7mpg.
