Elegant and discreet styling, exceptional build quality, excellent diesels, good ride quality.
Very conservative, limited rear cabin space, not as much fun to drive as a 3-Series.
A very strong contender in the executive car segment, with elegant looks and a strong engine line-up.

Even though every single body panel except the roof was new, and it was slightly longer overall, this A4's cabin is no larger than that of its predecessor. The seats were improved, however, with better support, as was the ride - quiet and compliant with the standard-fit wheels, with little of the jittery nervousness of the previous car over patchily-finished road surfaces.
Dashboard ergonomics are first-rate, and the driver can get an ideal position relative to pedals/gearshift. The news is less good for those in the rear, with six-footers being a little tight on headroom and legroom if seated behind another tall adult.
Equipment levels are relatively generous, though. All models have electronic climate control, electric windows, 16-inch alloys wheels, electronic stability control, traction control and front foglights.
