The only significant blot on the A4's recent reliability record was the failure of a batch of ignition coils, which affected the 1.8 20v turbo engines built from about the summer of 2001 to the autumn of 2002. There have also been some problems with the Multitronic gearbox in these 2005- models. Otherwise, Audi continues to enjoy a reputation for reliability and quality, and the engines new to the A4 have long been used in other Volkswagen Group cars so are well proven and de-bugged.
