Audi A3 (2003-) Review

Category: Small Family 3 out of 5

Summary of the Audi A3 (2003-)

Price Range: £14,995 to £26,445

Assets

Classy looks, attractive cabin, safe handling, quality, 2.0-litre engines

Drawbacks

Pricey, appalling rearward visibility, notchy gearchange, smallish boot, less sporting than Audi claims

Verdict

Desirable but expensive. Good road manners and roomier cabin justify its high price

Audi A3 Review

Running Costs4 out of 5

All the engines are relatively economical given their performance, with low-ish carbon dioxide outputs. The 1.9 TDI returns an excellent 62.8mpg in three-door form, with a carbon dioxide output of just 119g/km - one to minimise tax pay-outs.

Insurance premiums should be reasonable, and Audi servicing costs aren't too bad for a 'premium' manufacturer, either. The A3 holds its value well, too.
