Consider it as a classy, practical coupe (even the five-door), and you won't be disappointed. Don't consider it as an expensive Golf - it's too cramped.
No second- or third-hand bargains, but it's worth paying for a good well-maintained A3. It'll give good dependable service, and continue to hold its value well. Powerful models such as the 1.8 T (despite its reliability problems) continue to be popular, as long as they have metallic paint and a nice set of alloys.
