Alfa Romeo Spider Review

Safety and Security4 out of 5

Neither the Spider nor the Brera have been subjected to the EuroNCAP crash tests yet, but we'd be surprised if they don't perform well. In advance of exports across the Atlantic, the Spider has been designed to withstand the strict US crash regulations, which measure the crush resistance of the car in the event of a rollover. Fixed rollover bars and a strengthened windscreen pillar should keep the two occupants safe if the worst does happen. Five airbags are fitted - including a knee 'bag for the driver (a passenger knee 'bag is optional), plus a number of active safety measures including ABS with brakeforce distribution and brake assist (which cuts down brake reaction time) and stability and traction control systems.

Remote central locking with alarm and immobiliser are standard.
