Alfa Romeo 145/146 (1994-2001) Review

Category: Small Family 2.5 out of 5

Summary of the Alfa Romeo 145/146 (1994-2001)

Price Range: £14,950 to £19,050

Assets

Characterful styling, peppy engines, fun to drive, lots of equipment, holds value well.

Drawbacks

Jiggly ride, high servicing and insurance costs, build quality not the best.

Verdict

Tempting, like alcohol, but there's the hangover to consider. A car for the more enthusiastic driver.

Alfa Romeo 147 Review

Reliability and Quality3 out of 5

Alfa Romeo was still struggling with improving its quality at the time of the 145/146, but the range was at least better-built than the earlier 33& Most 145/146s are looking a bit tatty now, especially if hard-driven (and most were), but aside from showing general wear and tear rather too easily, they have actually been reasonably reliable. Keep an eye out for electrical problems, misfiring and poor starting, and timing belts must be changed to service schedule.

There is soul in this engine. It revs easily and the engine note is so sweet.
