Distinctive style, crisp engine, big personality.
Cheap-looking facia, oddly high driving position.
Intriguing cars, easier to love from afar.

Both ride pretty firmly on lumpy roads, but the motion is more fidget than jerk. Noise levels have been reduced at speed since new door seals were designed. The high seating position makes you more aware of the way the cars lean in corners than you would be if you could sit lower. Air-conditioning is an expensive option. They feel roomier than they are, thanks to a hollowed-out facia ahead of the front passenger. The 145's boot is small, and the flexible luggage cover (the tailgate cuts deep into the roof, so its hinges are in the wrong place for a normal rigid shelf to work) is fiddly to use. The 146 has a normal hatchback-size boot. Main attraction is a standard-fit CD-stacker. Sound quality is fine.
