Mazda RX-8 (2008-) Review

Category: Affordable Sports 4 out of 5

Summary of the Mazda RX-8 (2008-)

Price Range: No data available

Assets

Technically interesting; practical four-door body style; fun to drive; good value for money.

Drawbacks

High emissions, high tax; heavy fuel consumption.

Verdict

An utterly unique proposition - and likely to remain that way.

Review

Used Value3 out of 5

Curiosity value is keeping RX-8 prices quite strong - at about 48% after three years/36,000 miles, though some buyers have been wary of the rotary engine.

Second-hand RX-8s get a lot cheaper once they're no longer covered by Mazda's three-year/60,000-mile warranty. Used values have also been affected by the number of unofficial 'grey' imports from Japan around, sold cheaply by independent dealers.

Still, the RX-8 is not expensive to buy new in the first place, and this R3 with the high-powered engine and full spec should make a decent investment, as long as there's no nasty new legislation against Band G vehicles or punitive further tax hikes.
