A real 'swiss army knife' of cars. It does everything well and has been totally reliable (unlike other Landrover cars I've owned in the past). Dealer support has been great and the car has been comfortably the best long distance cruiser I've owned... However, I've decided to sell now as I cannot justify over £400 road tax, real world 19-21mpg on diesel and emissions which are excessive... PS: when used in anger off-road, it is simply fabulous but thirsty!
Quite possibly the finest Land Rover (if not vehicle) I've ever had the pleasure to own/drive... until I had to fill the tank! Land Rover claim you can get 27.2 mpg (auto) on the combined cycle, but I rarely saw more than 17mpg when driving at 55mph. The estimated range given by the onboard computer was also less than accurate, not to mention scary when it would suddenly announce that there was no miles left when previously it had reported there were five! A very disappointing, short lived purchase...
After driving the landrover on and off-road, the car is no doubt about it the best 4x4 I have seen and driven. It has loads of room throughout, the 4x4 capabilities are from a tank, and on road they are fantastic.
I have driven this car on and off road. It is a very accomplished car. The engine is quiet, the handling is positive, the ride is comfortable. By making the new Discovery feel like a car something has been lost. I also really disliked all of the gismos. Preparing for serious off-roading is like preparing an aircraft for takeoff. Except the outcome is more dull!
