Bought Type S diesel three weeks ago. Achieved 45mpg during running-in period on motorway commutes; should loosen up. The acceleration is incredible as are the car's looks. I love the spaceship dash. Superb gearchange. I am getting used to the rear visibility: rear parking is not an issue as it is so compact. I am 6' 2" but my petite wife finds the visibility irksome. She drives a conservatory on wheels, though (a new Multipla; also a fine car). CD is a bit tinny. No issues with rattles. Superb!
An excellent car. Quick, responsive, excellent fuel economy, powerful acceleration when needed and so comfortable. I could drive this car all day without feeling tired or getting a nagging ache in my back. Smooth gearchange and loads of real-time information on performance. The only niggle is the spoiler on the rear screen. It limits your view to the rear although the large wing mirrors compensate for this. My kids think it is the coolest car on the road.
Bought new six weeks ago, I have now done over 2000 miles. After an initial running in period, the engine seems to be coming into its own. The combination of the 2.2iCTDi and this chassis is a real driver's dream. The diesel is so refined and pulls so well some passengers though it was a V6 petrol!! Economy is improving all the time, started off at around 50mpg extra urban, but is now 55mpg and rising. For a small car, there is plenty of room, just ask the two 6ft guys in my car pool!
The Civic Type-S is an excellent all-round family car let down by a few details. These are: far too low-geared in top for motorway crusing, no shaded area at top of windscreen and the windscreen wiper on driver's side leaves large area unswept. Passenger and boot room are excellent for the class - better than a Ford Focus. Performance is good, but fuel consumption is 20% below that claimed by Honda.
Recently bought and very pleased I must say. Its no hot haach but still has plenty of pick up to keep most satisfied. Lots of toys inside to play with, which should extend the honeymoon period by trying to work out how everything works! Don't agree with the comment about the hard ride with the 18" rims... if you're after a cushioned ride then go for a chelsea tractor! In my view the larger wheels really make the car stand out. On a practical level, there's a surprising amount of space in the back and boot.
