At 56,000 miles my Scenic needs a turbo and a prop shaft. The cat is also prone to breaking regularly. These cars are bad news in the used car trade as are Lagunas. My advice is to buy something else secondhand.
Apart from a passenger side window regulator failing, we haven't had a single reliability issue with the car. Love the super smooth, torquey diesel engine, the acres of space and the sheer versatility of the thing. NCAP five star rating is confidence-inspiring too. Not so impressed with the numb steering and ridiculously over-servoed brakes, and the fact that it will only do about 35mpg around town. On the whole though it's a fabulous, gadget-laden family lugger that I would recommend to anyone.
This is an attractive, good handling 4x4 that is well specced. However, it is poorly made; interior trim rattles and feels cheap, electrical faults are numerous and this one suffered from random non-starting from either hot or cold! Even after three visits to Renault they were unable to diagnose the exact problem! You'd be a fool to buy this car as its poorly made and unreliable (even compared to Fiat and Peugeot). Renault need to stop making such rubbish if it is to remain in business. Shame on you, Renault!
A thoroughly competent load carrier. Electronics are temperamental. Keyless entry is annoying, it never works when you have your hands full. Electronic engine management slow me down as I moved into the outside lane of the motorway, quite a shock for the driver behind! Windscreen wipers have a mind of their own, sometimes stopping in the spray from other vehicles. I don't think that I will buy another Renault for a while.
