Our Elise was bought last year as a jointly owned 'fun' second car, a decision we don't regret despite several niggles. At times these 'teething problems' have irritated the hell out of us - namely a leak in one of the headlights that allowed water into the cabin, and a driver's door that on several occasions refused to close properly - but all is forgiven the moment you drive it. Truly superb. In terms of practicality, though, it would be a challenge as your only car.
Lamborghini? Ferrari? Porsche? I've driven them all, but for sheer grin factor, there's nothing like an Elise. It connects you with the road in a way you'd never get with a well-groomed supercar, and you can throw it around without being scared it will come back and bite you. Hit a corner just a little too fast? OK then, I'll help you out, just this once. Yes, the roof is fiddly, it leaks a bit, and you need to be a contortionist to get in it, but do you care? Thought not, me neither.
Some of the most fun you can have with your clothes on. Responsive, crisp, fast and, with the promotional package - good value. Radio, carpets, metallic finish, air-con for £24k. Only problem discoverd to date is not to jet hose the back end - seems to interfere with the engine management system and cause forced idling. Overall - love it to bits - head turning stomach churning road burning excellence on a well upholstered skateboard.
