97, 98, 99... 100! You expect balloons to drop from the canopy or klaxons to sound, but… nothing. Nothing to take away the pain of making your first £100 fill-up.
Expect plenty of those if you buy a Dodge Ram pick-up, now officially on sale in the UK. With a 118-litre tank, unleaded would have to drop below 90p a litre before you stopped nudging three figures from empty.

It wouldn't be so bad if there was a diesel under the bonnet. But no, this is the same top-of-the-range Ram 4x4 as the Americans drive - and that means nothing less than a 5.7-litre Hemi V8. On one feather-footed motorway run we managed 21mpg. And cheered our frugality at achieving it.
If you really want to bump up your Nectar points, then Dodge UK has also imported the Viper-engined 8.3-litre V10 version, but other than an addition to a million-pound car collection, it's little more than a crazed curio.
