VW Lupo 1.0 E
by Mark Taylor 15.04.03
I bought this car on the back of VW's reputation for reliability, quality and safety. Well, it's ok on all three, but...
With a Lupo I have found that VW dealers don't have the time of day for you and somehow regard you as a second class citizen to those with Passats and Golfs. Cheap to run - well not at the dealers as I paid £229 for a 20,000-mile standard service (i.e. no extra parts or spares). And then the build quality- it looks good in the brochure and on day one. But my car leaks badly. Wet smelly carpets, repeated moppings up and dealers who can't sort the problem. Other gripes - it rattles and squeaks like a three-year-old Fiat! The gearbox is notchy and brakes spongy. So, this is after all an average car, not a top-notch mini Audi or best-build supermini.
