  • Road Test: Volkswagen Golf GTI (2005-)

    RUNNING COSTS RATING:

This is not a cheap car, although it's little more expensive than Renault's Mégane 225 and is likely to hold its value better. Servicing should be undemanding - it will be dictated by the mileage- and use-sensitive service indicator - and fuel economy looks to be good for a car of such pace. The FSI engine does give its best on the more expensive super unleaded petrol, though. Insurance groups have yet to be announced, but they won't be low. Many years down the road, this Golf GTI is likely to be as sound a used buy as its predecessors have been, with values staying strong far into the future.
