  • Road Test: Toyota Picnic (1997-2001)
    Large MPV
    Toyota Picnic (97-01)
    COMFORT AND EQUIPMENT RATING:

A lack of adjustability compromises the driving position, but otherwise all seats are comfortable and the six-seater has lots of lounging space. The ride is supple, but the Picnic can start to feel squashy if driven too vigorously. Air-conditioning is standard in the GLS. It's roomy, of course, but not as versatile as some rivals because the centre row of seats, though foldable (into a table or forward out of the way), isn't removable. Nor do the rear seats fold flat, although you can take these out. There is lots of space around the six-seater's individual seats, but carrying five people means that you still lose half the boot space. The six-seater GLS can, optionally, be had with the GS's seven-seat, middle-row-bench layout. Storage includes a box on top of the facia. Nothing special, with just four speakers, although you do get the RDS traffic information facility.
