| COMFORT AND EQUIPMENT RATING: |
 |
Unusually for a supermini, the steering wheel adjusts for height and reach and the front seats have pump-ratchet height adjusters. A good driving position is easy to find and the sportily bolstered seats are firmly supportive. Air conditioning is standard on all but the Reference models.
Noise levels are commendably low, but the diesel versions' ride is too firm and choppy thanks to over-stiff front suspension. The smaller-engined petrol cars ride tautly but well.
There's plenty of headroom and padded rolls at the base of the front seats' backrests cushion rear passengers' shins. The boot, at 267litres, is just slightly smaller than the Polo's, but other dimensions are near identical, making this one of the roomiest superminis.
A single-CD player with six speakers and crisp sound quality is standard across the range; a six-CD stacker and CD Radio with MP3 are further options. Also planned for 2007 are USB, iPod and auxiliary audio connections.
Also optional is a sat nav system with a monochrome screen, which uses the Traffic Message Channel (TMC) to re-route you around jams.
