Rover 45
by I. Eastabrook 09.09.02
Over the years (since 1960) I have owned 12 different cars. My number 1 criterion has to be performance - on the open road. The willingness to accelerate for overtaking and getting out of trouble! One good car for this was the Rover 216, the only previous Rover I have owned but probably the best car of the lot, and yet much maligned by the motoring press who seem to have it in for Rover. My last car was the Peugeot 306 TD, and I have to say this was the best car up to now! In terms of performance it would out-accelerate just about every car on the road but the 45 I have just bought is equally as good. Why do motoring correspondents quote the 0-60 times which are pretty useless? It's the acceleration on the road that counts - 30-50, 50-70 etc. The 45 TD is slowest on 0-60 in the Rover range but out-accelerates everything on the road! I like the style too and my black leather seats are very comfortable! So for performance and style it has to be the Rover 45 2.0 TD. One grumble though is the noisy engine at low speeds - it is OK on the motorway. And it's British - my cars are always British or made in the UK.

Introduction Rover's 45 saloon/hatchback is comfortable and pleasant to drive, but it's not the roomiest car... |
