Crowd pleaserUntil Rover's troubles, one of the most popular cars in this sector, but it's outclassed by newer offerings now and is due to be replaced by the 25 very soon. It's not a bad car as such - the hot hatch Vi is pretty lively and the diesels are surprisingly refined. Was replaced in 2000 by the 25, which was also repositioned as a supermini because of its relatively cramped interior.
