| RUNNING COSTS RATING: |
 |
Two stars, because it suffers from steep depreciation, though bear in mind that this can partially be offset with a fat discount when buying. Servicing costs and insurance, on the other hand, are competitive, fuel economy good. Actually quite a nice used car, if you can accept that it's not as big as other models in the Small Family segment, which is why Rover re-positined it as a Supermini in 2000. Customer satisfaction surveys reckon that it's pretty average, while used prices are fairly strong too. Tends to wear well inside and out, and most are thoughtfully looked after too. The 200 has long been overpriced, and the recent price cuts help only a little, because there are so many better new alternatives about. And its depreciation rate makes it costlier to run than it should be.
