  • Road Test: Renault Laguna (2001-2005)
Large Family by: Matthew Prior / Farah AlKhalisi
    Renault Laguna (01- )
    RUNNING COSTS RATING:

Our favourite Laguna and, conveniently, also the most economical to run is the 1.9dCi. It is cheap to insure, returns more than 50mpg and has service intervals of every 18,000 miles. Prices and residual values are on a par with other cars in this class, though no large family/fleet car of this type holds its value particularly well. Versions with large petrol engines - i.e. the 3.0 V6 - will be worth less by the minute. As a value for money purchase, the Laguna offers better safety than any rival, and some of its claims for equipment levels are compelling too. However, ask yourself whether you really need a dimmer-switch on the interior light and that tyre-pressure monitor. When it comes to items like CD players and air conditioning, the Laguna is no better equipped than many of its direct competitors.
