  • Road Test: Renault Clio (2005-)

    RUNNING COSTS RATING:

Unsurprisingly, the new Clio will prove a frugal companion. The diesels actually use a little more fuel than in comparable versions of the old Clio, and the petrols just a tad less, but as none should ever return less than 40mpg on the open road and all the diesels will do over 60mpg, there's not much cause for complaint here. Moreover, young drivers will find insurance as low as Group 2E makes for a very attractive financial proposition. Service intervals are 30,000km for petrol models, but just 20,000km for diesels. Demand for secondhand Clios is strong, which will help maintain residual (resale) values.
