    Large MPV

    Renault Avantime
    by David Mead

Everything that I've owned or driven now seems incredibly out of date after owning this gorgeous car for three weeks. Renault's decision to pull the plug on this model I think is a disaster because it really does represent the future in car design. It drives beautifully giving the occupants an elevated view of the passing world in a supremely quiet, chilled air conservatory type compartment, complemented by a discreet smell of leather. The whole package is one of touring car rather than perhaps either an MPV or Coupe, definitely more poise than performance, but certainly 'je ne sais quoi'. If you like to be noticed then this is the car for you, or maybe like me you just want to be different... (I love the very subtle side looks from people driving so called 'prestige' badges from you know where). It seems pretty good on fuel returning 32 mpg so far, and with so many standard features my 5 month old ex-demonstrator has got to be a real bargain.
