    COMFORT AND EQUIPMENT RATING:

The biggest limiting factor with the Cayman is clearly its lack of rear seats – something you will either be able to live with or not, there’s no middle ground.

Luggage space is excellent by Porsche sports car standards, with the usual nose boot found in the 911 and Boxster being supplemented by a large and useful load area under the hatch behind the front seats. You’ll not be using it for transporting grand-father clocks or washing machines, but if you want a fortnight’s cruising around Europe, it should take all the holiday luggage even the most fashion-conscious of couples can muster.

Less impressive is the layout of the interior, particularly the centre control console, which consists of an unedifying array of small, fiddly black buttons. Tall drivers will also find leg room is limited and that the steering wheel cannot be pulled close enough to the chest.

Standard equipment is limited to the bare essentials for a car of this price: not only are leather and navigation optional, but so is full climate control, with only basic air-conditioning being available within the purchase price.
