  • Road Test: Peugeot 206 (1998-)
    Superminis
    Peugeot 206 (98- )
    PERFORMANCE RATING:

All petrol engines are smooth and reasonably quiet, even though they are quite old designs, and offer lively, willing pace. The 1.6 16v engine powers the five-door GLX and the sporty-looking, three-door XSi sufficiently well for the XSi to live up to its looks, though it's a bit gutless in the heavier SW estate. Peugeot's diesel and turbodiesel engines are among the very best in the class. Only the 137bhp 2.0 GTi is really disappointing, though the GTi 180 is more of a proper hot hatch (read the separate tests).
