  • Road Test: Peugeot 206 (1998-)
    Superminis
    Peugeot 206 (98- )
    DRIVING RATING:

All 206s have power steering and quick, light and easy if long-winded gearchanges. The view rearwards is a little restricted by the high window line, but the switchgear and instruments are clear and the fluid, roll-along driving feel encourages confidence. But the driving position really irritates - the pedals are far too close together for anyone with more than tiny feet, and the steering column is so low-set it fouls pedal action. The indicator stalk is feels flimsy too; there was a recall on some of that broke easily.

In terms of driving enjoyment, the 206 doesn't have quite the intimate interactivity with the driver that made the 205 such fun, because power steering and road-insulating refinement have softened the edges. But it still feels fluid and positive, eager to point into a bend and happy to adjust its line as you ease the accelerator.
