  • Road Test: Peugeot 106 GTI (1996-)
    Hot Hatchbacks
    Peugeot 106 GTI (96- )
    COMFORT AND EQUIPMENT RATING:

The suspension is noisy, so there'll be plenty of bangs and thumps over poor roads, but it's far from rock-hard. The engine is vocal at speed, so the 106 GTI is not a soothing companion. There's no air-conditioning. Given how small it is, the 106 is quite spacious. Headroom can be a problem for tall people, but passenger legroom is adequate front and rear. The boot is compact, but unintrusive suspension makes the most of the available space. Nothing special, but there's a remote-control stalk on the steering column, and an RDS traffic information system. Lower-spec 106s have a single-CD player, but the GTI uses old-tech cassettes.
