| RUNNING COSTS RATING: |
 |
So long as it proves reliable and dependable, a 1007 should prove cheap to run. All cars have service intervals of a generous 20,000 miles, while insurance groups range from 3E to 5E, which is very reasonable. Fuel economy is good, too: without the burden of a conventional automatic gearbox, the 2-Tronic equipped 1.6-litre petrol unit returns 42.8mpg on the combined cycle, while the manual-only 1.4 HDi gets an impressive 64.2mpg. The 1.4-litre petrol gives 45.6mpg in 2-Tronic mode, or 45.3mpg as a conventional manual. Depreciation may yet be an issue. We've yet to see trade estimates, but buyers could have some difficulty in pinpointing where the 1007 lies in the market: is it a supermini, is it a small MPV? We're concerned that the public at large just won't know, and won't trust electrically sliding doors either, especially in a French car, and especially when they're the only means of getting in and out (although they can be operated manually).
